Whilst teaching English in Barcelona, Annabel studied watercolour and oil under Carlos Madirolas (Bellas Artes). On her return to the UK she took up Printmaking at Kensington and Chelsea College. As a member of The Nine Printmakers, she exhibited annually at The Riverside Studios, London. Now, with more than 30 years experience as a printmaker, she lives and works in Kent, exhibiting locally and taking part in South East Open Studios every June. She has recently finished a residency at Tonbridge School.
Most of Annabel’s work is based around structure and architecture whether it be agricultural barns or high-rise cityscapes, but whilst inspired by both her urban and country surroundings her images are always imagined, allowing her to play with form and colour. In fact playful experimentation, and using the indirect nature and uncertainty of printmaking is very much part of her process. This combined with employing a wide variety of printmaking techniques (etching, drypoint collagraph and screenprint) and collage (chine colle) help to produce unique, layered abstracted images of high-rise buildings barns and sheds.
