Jay Fleming
Artist

Jay combines his eye for creativity and fine art with storytelling to create compelling photographs of how we interact with the natural environment, specifically the water.

Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Maryland provided Jay with an upbringing centered around living on the water. When he was 13-years old, Jay put one of his father’s old 35mm film cameras from his National Geographic days back to work. What happened next was the start of a photographic journey that would eventually lead him to his career as a full time professional photographer.

Jay has published two large format coffee table books – Working the Water and Island Life – documenting the Chesapeake’s seafood industry and the vanishing way of life on the bay’s island communities. Currently Jay is working on his third book, Atlantic Harvest, which he describes as a photographing narrative of the iconic East Coast seafood industry. With his U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license, Jay operates two boats for his shoots and for his photography workshops.
